Cafes

Hungry? We have you covered!

Ginger Baker, our next door neighbor and our favorite place for a yummy breakfast! Their menu has everything you could want from the veggie breaky, pancakes or the big breakfast! Ginger Baker is also open for lunch, our favorites are the pork belly salad and the prawn linguini!

Sixpence, our local coffee roasters who source the towns coffee barista’s with the best coffee beans. You’ll find the tastiest pastries in town, make sure your try the almond croissant or their fresh hot savoury scrolls and be sure to get in early so you don’t miss out! They sell out quickly!

Food Wine and Friends, this tiny cafe located on Ireland street is one not to miss. Enjoy your morning coffee out on the street and enjoy the best bagels we’ve ever had. Be sure to pick up a loaf of fresh Milawa Corn Bread! If you haven’t tried corn bread, you’re missing out! Some personal favourites from the menu are the BLAT bagel and the zucchini & corn fritters on the specials menu.

RESTAURANTs

Tomahawks, now I’m sure you’ve heard of Tomahawks before, it has a pretty good reputation and you have to find out why! I can’t even tell you what to order here because honestly, the whole menu is delicious! Order one of everything and share it amongst the table, you won’t regret it. Don’t forget the cocktails, a Tiki Sour is a must!

Just down the road, owned and run by the same Chef Kurt, Hometown! Hometown is a pizza based menu, with a few extra sides you have to try. The calamari is to die for, and don’t skip past the ranch dipping sauce for your pizza!

Don Mungo’s, located on Gavan Street in town, Mungo’s is a new pizza restaurant, bar and it has a dance floor! With a completely different menu to Hometown, enjoy your choice of pizza (BIG MAC PIZZA), a few drinks and get on the dance floor after 10pm on a Saturday night. With local DJ’s playing every weekend, you are sure to have a great night out here.

After a pub meal? The Star Hotel would have to be the best choice, with a massive inside dining area, an extensive menu and the best chicken Parma in the area, if you want my opinion… Thursday night Parma night for $18, you can’t go wrong!

After a long drive into the Vic High Country, the last thing you probably want to do is go out for dinner, Burgerville is your best takeaway option! Located next to the Woolworths car park, pick your favorite burger (The Hoff is my go-to), beef, chicken or veggie and enjoy it at your accommodation.

things to do in and AROUND town

If the weather doesn’t plan out for cycling or a nice walk perhaps a drive could do the trick.

Spending time along beautiful Ovens River and soaking in the atmosphere of this beautiful place is what it is all about.
There are plenty of day trip options if you wish to drive around and see the extended areas such as picturesque Wandiligong – a historic village just 6km from Bright. While you’re there, why not a cocktail at 5 Acres Bar & Kitchen or stop at Nightingales Apple Orchid and Shop front to stock up on amazing local goodies!

In the opposite direction you can head to Mt Buffalo and check out Lady Bath Falls at the base of Mt Buffalo, then keep driving to The Horn at the summit to take in the magnificent views. Whilst you are out this way you can even squeeze in a visit to Rollason Falls if you’re up for the hike back to the top!

Or drive to Harrietville, with plenty to see and do. One of the most popular places at Harrietville is the Mountain Fresh Trout and Salmon Farm, definitely worth a visit. With free entry it makes a great day out. Have a stroll through the many fish breeding ponds, feed the fish, and then catch a fish to bring home and cook on the BBQ for dinner!
